this glass sculpture was introduced by salviati in 2004 and production was limited to 101 pieces. each is indivdual piece is hand signed by luca nichetto & gian pietro gai. bubble is created by a superimposition of white opaque glass and transparent coloured glass, which allows obtaining opaque colored glass. The glass layers are gathered in succession; the piece is then blown, pinched and tightened by hand using damp newspapers. this gives the piece the bubbles shape. the piece is then perforated so that the inside colors become visible, creating a surrealistic effect.
soffici vases designed by christian ghion for salviati. christian ghion has designed lines that are free of any attempt at formal virtuosity to highlight the sculptural quality of glass and crystallise its intrinsic energy. although these vases have a simple profile, the designer's hallmark lies in the unusual and subtle proportions that force the centrifugal trend of blown glass. slight sanding is performed on each piece by hand, attenuating the natural shine of the glass and highlighting the strength of the design. the vases are available in rich black, red and blue to better highlight the purity of these deeply sculpted shapes of inter-crossed lines. the consistent stylistic choices of christian ghion, his desire to get to the heart of the material and his refusal of easy solutions give his work extraordinary energy and strength, a real sign of the designer's talent. if design in the art of glassmaking is a challenge, christian ghion has certainly risen to the occasion. small - 11.61"w x 6.07"h large - 10.63"w x 11.42"h

Product Information For more than two decades, Bruno Rainaldi has been influencing the design scene in Milan. Whether designing furniture, bringing iconic works back into production or teaching students at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he is a professor. When he designed his Sapien Bookcase (2003), he created a unique solution for those with a lot of books and little space to store them. By holding texts horizontally in a vertical stack, the tall Sapien can accommodate up to 70 small and large books in a very compact footprint. (The shorter bookcase will hold up to 50 books.) The removable shelves are a mere 2mm thick but each one can hold approximately five books, or an impressive 5.5 lbs. The tall Sapien has 14 shelves, the short has 10. When fully loaded, the bookcase virtually disappears behind the books. All-metal construction and a heavy, weighted base ensure the design’s strength and stability. Simple assembly required. Made in Italy.

Design Isamu Noguchi, 1948 Solid wood base, 3/4" plate-glass top Made by Herman Miller® "Everything is sculpture, any material, any idea without hindrance born into space, I consider sculpture." -Isamu Noguchi Sculptor Isamu Noguchi's coffee table joins a curved, solid wood base with a freeform glass top. The ethereal result does not diminish the practical design: a sturdy and durable table. This balance of sculptural form and everyday function has made the Noguchi table an understated and beautiful element in homes and offices since its introduction in 1948. Unwilling and unable to be pigeonholed, Noguchi created sculptures using any medium he could get his hands on: stone, metal, wood, clay, bone, paper, or a mixture of any or all--carving, casting, cutting, pounding, chiseling, or dynamiting away as each form took shape. "To limit yourself to a particular style may make you an expert of that particular viewpoint or school, but I do not wish to belong to any school," he said. "I am always learning, always discovering." Noguchi believed the sculptor's task was to shape space, to give it order and meaning, and that art should "disappear," or be as one with its surroundings. His relationship with Herman Miller® came about when one of his designs was used to illustrate an article written by George Nelson called "How to Make a Table." It became his famous "coffee table," and it's as appealing today as it was then. For someone who was told by his first art teacher at age 15 that he'd "never be a sculptor," he left an amazing legacy. To assure authenticity, the signature of Isamu Noguchi discreetly appears on the edge of the top and on a medallion on the underside of the base; under the medallion, his initials are stamped into the base. Noguchi's coffee table consists of three pieces. A freeform, 3/4" plate-glass top resting on two curved, solid wood legs that interlock to form a tripod for self-stabilizing support. Available in your choice of three finish options. 50" w | 36" d | 15.75" h
