Make It Work #172: Proenza Schouler Asymmetric Brocade Dress
Sep 5, 2012
For this week's challenge, I decided to create an Asian-inspired (more specifically, Chinese) look. I really loved the deep, rich colors in this dress, so I tried to bring those out in my look. I also added different textures, such as fur and tortoiseshell, for warmth and interest. (It certainly befits the trend of embellishment and maximalism that's all the rage these days.) It's a little boho-chic and eccentric, yet quite elegant. This would be great for wearing to the opening of an art museum -- preferably one with a lot of Chinese antiques!
Hope you like it! :)

Designer Genevieve Jones, crowned the "girl of the moment" by Vogue, was inspired by her extensive travels in Thailand when she designed this sleek, chic stingray envelope clutch. An exquisite study in opulently detailed minimalism, it's accented with Italian leather piping, a dangling leather whip-stitched medallion flaunting a shimmering metallic logo, and a free-spirited leather tassel. Even her logo itself (which she describes as her first and last initials "mirroring each other four times and upside down") has a deliberately Asian look and feel to it. Divided interior features three sections and a small inside pocket. Leather lining. Measures 8 3/4" x 5 1/4".
