The Upper Playground A Decade of Swiss Design Lost in Brooklyn Book by Grotesk in Black Grotesk, aka Kimou Meyer, is a Swiss designer who moved to NYC in 1999 to work for a European design agency and has been there ever since. In the process of discovering the unique visual language of the Brooklyn streets, things such as hand painted signs, sport logos, street bombing, etc, he found that his approach to design and the creation of his own work took a drastic 180 degree turn. Grotesk's previous focus had been the design of minimalist catalogues, logos and branding systems, but he found that there was a lot more fun to be had in creating tee shirts, skateboards and silk screens for his friends. He eventually excelled in tee shirt and apparel design and now has a worldwide clientele. This exciting new title features 200 illustrations, designs and artworks created by Grotesk over the past 10 years. From Upper Playground This item ships directly from the vendor. The Upper Playground Happily Ever After Book by Jeremy Fish in Black "Happily Ever After is my 6th book project, and the follow up to my last book "Once Upon A Time". The book documents my paintings, drawings, installations, murals, and screen prints from 2008 to 2014. It has been the best 5 years of my life, both personally and professionally, so I thought the book title should reflect this. I hope folks enjoy this book, as I spent a ton of sleepless nights filling its pages from the archives of my imagination." — Jeremy Fish From Upper Playground This item ships directly from the vendor. The Upper Playground Flip the Script Book in Black Graffiti is one of the last strongholds of highly refined well-practiced penmanship in our contemporary culture. The tag, the most reviled and persecuted form of graffiti, is seldom appreciated for its raw beauty and skeletal letter-forms. The casual viewer seldom discerns the difference between entry level and advanced hand styles. Within the pages of FLIP THE SCRIPT, author Christian Acker systemically analyzes historic hand styles by collecting the work of writers from the most influential American cities and searching for the origins and commonalities that connect people, places and times. While distilling years worth of interviews with graffiti writers from all over the country, intersecting tales emerge that reveal a web of unwitting connections and influences. FLIP THE SCRIPT has captured a representation of geographic differences within contemporary folk-art history; a history rapidly becoming muddied by internet culture. Acker presents the lettering samples in a clean, chronological format, for the first time giving the material a formal treatment evocative of classical calligraphy manuals and typography books. FLIP THE SCRIPT includes art and interviews from luminaries such as: TAKI 183, STAY HIGH 149, HAZE, CORNBREAD, ESPO, AGUA, RENOS, GREY, DUGONE, MIKE GIANT, CHAZ BOJORQUEZ, SLICK, & CRAIG STECYK.
