Product Information The Go Collection (2005) was created after “an absolutely informal study taken by us lollygaggers,” say designers Greg Benson and Jeff Taly, the founders of Loll Designs. “We learned that people frequently sit with other people when outside. Perhaps this is because there’s no TV, or maybe our gregarious tendencies are amplified outdoors?” The Go Collection is a modern take on classic club chairs and love seats found indoors. Its seats are similar in height to those of dining chairs, and its backs have a less dramatic angle than those of typical outdoor lounge chairs for a more upright sitting position. These pieces are made of recycled plastic reclaimed from post-consumer goods like milk jugs, which can be recycled again if necessary. Since Loll was founded in 2006, its use of recycled materials has kept millions of milk jugs out of landfills. The fade-resistant, waterproof, maintenance-free Adirondack Collection is made to last for years. Each piece ships flat to save on packing materials; simple assembly required (Allen wrench included). Made in U.S.A. Materials:100% recycled post-consumer or post-commercial (depending on color) high-density polyethylene; high-grade stainless steel fasteners. Measurements:H 17" W 40" D 19.25"
Product Information This Daybed (2004) was designed “to be seen in the round,” says Craig Bassam, by which he means that it can be seen and used from all sides. Such an approach isn’t surprising from a design team living in a glass house where furniture is visible from every angle, whether you’re standing inside or out. The house is the work of Philip Johnson, the architect who designed the Glass House for his own private residence in New Canaan, Connecticut. To see how seamlessly this Daybed (and all the furniture BassamFellows has created) works in a space designed by the iconic Johnson, makes it very clear that these are the next icons – destined to become highly collectible. Bassam is an architect whose career started with Bruce Eeles, a disciple of Marcel Breuer. His partner, Scott Fellows is a Harvard MBA who transformed the Swiss firm Bally. Together they are BassamFellows, described as “the design world’s A-team” by The Times of London. This fully handcrafted Daybed is made of solid American black walnut that is sustainably and locally harvested. The leather cushions are hand stitched with inverted seams; the backrest adjusts to three positions. Made in U.S.A. Materials:Solid American black walnut; oxidized brass adjustable back support; dense foam corecushions with down topping; Elmo Elmotique aniline leather upholstery. Product Information When we asked Matthew Hilton to identify the common elements found in his work, he replied, “Functional, stackable, it has to store easily and be a good price.” Fast-forward to today, and he’s still staying true to those ideals. Seeing a need for durable outdoor furniture at accessible prices, Hilton created the Eos Collection (2011), which is sleek enough to work in an indoor dining space, as well. Eos is lightweight – literally and visually – smartly proportioned and very comfortable. Certain to inspire leisurely outdoor living during the long days of summer, this collection was named for Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn and bringer of light. It’s constructed of powder-coated aluminum that won’t rust over time. The Bench is designed for use with the Rectangular Table. Made in China. Materials:Powder-coated aluminum; plastic floor glides. Product Information Danish designers Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn named their company Norm to express their dedication to “working with Danish norms and standards refined over hundreds of years,” says Bjerre-Poulsen, “rather than rejecting them in the endless search for new.” The sincerity of their approach – bypassing flashy design for good design – shows in the quality of their work. These are products that endure both physically and aesthetically. The Finn Collection (2013) they developed for Design Within Reach is directly tied to their philosophy in that it was built on a passion for details, tactility in design and creating for the need. “Norm products never crave to be anything but what they are,” says Rønn. “That is the combination of utility, purity and quiet beauty.” The teak frames can be oiled to maintain their original color or left alone to develop a beautiful silvery patina. Removable seat cushions are clad in UV-protected, mildew-resistant Sunbrella fabric to withstand the elements. Seating can be used with or without cushions. Weight capacity: 300 pounds per seating area. Made in Indonesia. The Finn Collection was honored with a 2014 Chicago Athenaeum Good Design® Award. Materials:Solid sustainably harvested teak frame; Serge Ferrari® mesh; Sunbrella® seat cushions; black powder-coated or brushed stainless steel fittings (cushions match fittings: choose black cushions with black powder-coated steel fittings or white cushions with brushed stainless steel fittings). Product Information Craving furniture that could stand up to the salty environment of her seaside home in Florida, Florence Knoll called on Richard Schultz to create “a decent set of outdoor furniture made out of materials that won’t rust or corrode.” That was in 1962, and Schultz spent the next four years designing his refined 1966 Collection, originally known as the Knoll Leisure Collection. At a time when most outdoor furniture was stamped out of metal with backrests shaped like bouquets of flowers, the 1966 Collection brought the clean lines and balanced proportions of indoor modern furniture to outdoor living. In the years since its debut, the collection has been re-engineered to take advantage of modern materials like Teflon® thread. In creating the 1966 Collection, Schultz satisfied Florence Knoll’s request for outdoor furniture that lasts, and many of the sets purchased 50 years ago are still being enjoyed today. The 1966 Collection is included in the permanent collection at MoMA. This is the authentic 1966 Chaise Lounge by Knoll. Made in U.S.A. The large wheels can spin at different speeds thanks to their differential axles, making the 1966 Adjustable Chaise easy to move. Materials:Cast and extruded aluminum frame; weather-resistant polyester powder-coat finish; woven vinyl-coated polyester mesh; pure vinyl straps; Teflon thread; stainless steel supports and connectors; cast aluminum wheels with rubber tires and differential axles. Product Information Rusa is the work of KAA Design, a Los Angeles-based firm known for its work on the homes of Tom Hanks and Larry Ellison, and for commercial spaces like Hugo Boss. With beauty and craft as the cornerstones of their practice, this integrated team of architects and designers worked together to develop this collection. Rusa (2010) is all about casual comfort – an emphasis that was inspired by a trip Grant Kirkpatrick took to New Zealand. By spending time in small vacation homes called "bachs," where people relax and connect with nature, the designer discovered innovative ways to create a rural retreat without sacrificing clean, contemporary design. He returned home and translated those ideas to the furniture the team was creating, employing simple joinery and classic lines to achieve a modern aesthetic. UV-protected, mildew-resistant Sunbrella® webbing endures season after season and reinforces the comfort of the cushion. Seat Cushions (sold separately) are upholstered in Sunbrella fabric, which resists fading and mildew, even when exposed to extremes of sunlight, temperature and moisture. Suitable for residential and contract use. Made in Indonesia. Use the Corner, Single Seater and Chaise to create a sectional or sofa. Product Information Sol y Luna (1954) is an adaptation of Dan Johnson's Gazelle Collection, which was originally offered in wood or bronze, both with woven caning for the seat and back. However, due to the high cost of production, and the intense hand labor involved, fewer than 150 pieces from the Gazelle line were ever produced. Now made in durable cast aluminum by outdoor manufacturer Brown Jordan, the design maintains Johnson's comfortable organic form. These pieces are shaped with the body in mind. The Adjustable Chaise back wraps around you and adjusts from upright to reclined (not fully flat); the seats are comfortably sloped for support in a relaxed position. Seat Pads sold separately. Made in Mexico. Bright Green is a DWR Exclusive. Materials:Cast aluminum with powder-coated finish; SEAT PAD, 100% solution-dyed acrylic Suncloth® fabric.
