After I watched this video "Killing Us Softly 3" which was made by Jean Kilbourne, I felt like I have to take action cause it has broaden my mind about wrong things we're faced and accepted as women. I wanted to share this video with you and object the ideas insist on us. I'm sure you'll all find this video useful to prevent ourselves labeled as sex objects, things and something created for men's pleasure. I'm not a feminist and I like men and it doesn't matter if you don't, but the idea behind this group is to know what are we presented as in the mass media.
To me a big part of feminism is giving back to people who are less fortunate than me. I'm thinking that each week we will have an item that somehow relates to the topic of girl power or inspires it,...
This is a great idea, darling! I'm no feminist either, but I don't like being treated as objects! We women have to stand up for ourselves and show the world what we are worth!
I'm a 3rd wave feminist and proud of it. You may think it uncool to label yourself, "not a feminist" but I know deep down all of you who care about gender politics truly are....you just don't want the negative connotations associated with what you think "feminism" is.... It does not mean you are a lesbian, it does not mean you hate men, It is not a cult. It is not PRO-women/girl power above everyone else deal; it is about accepting yourself, others that are different from you, and acknowledging and promoting the equality of everyone regardless of their differences sex, race, religion, etc.... I know this because I was once like you, "I'm not a feminist, BUT...." I highly recommend taking a feminism class at your local university, picking up a general book on the subject or at the very least wikipedia the subject third wave feminism...it's not your mothers and grandmother's man-hating feminist movement anymore..... Once you do that, you can get over the stigma and just be the world
wise lipstick and designer dud wearing hottie that you are AND proudly call yourself a feminist. My husband does! (call himself a feminist; he doesn't wear lipstick:D)
I'm not a feminist eather. But the video was really eye opening. I thought I was the least influenced from advertising. But i'm not. lol Makes me realize the little comments my friends make and how much makeup and looks make not leave the house if were not "perfect". Good idea! This is really great of you to make =]
