Based in Joshua Tree, California, Alma Allen has a stone and wood carving studio, as well as his own bronze foundry, where he created a forge using refractory...moreBased in Joshua Tree, California, Alma Allen has a stone and wood carving studio, as well as his own bronze foundry, where he created a forge using refractory cement and an old vacuum cleaner canister. He also designed and built his own environmentally friendly house. When it comes to his sculptures and bowls, Allen prefers to collect the materials himself and primarily uses stone and wood. To create his hand-carved Walnut Burl Bowl (2011), he chose orchard-salvaged claro walnut burl, one of the most prized and rare wood varieties. Allen keeps it chunky and solid, with the earthiness and heart of the wood intact, resulting in a bowl that begs to be held, not just admired from a distance. These are handmade items; no two pieces are exactly the same. Inconsistencies in size, finish and color are to be expected. Limited to a series of 250. Made in U.S.A.
