As the designer of more than 400 chairs (including the Wishbone and Shell chairs), Danish designer Hans Wegner was taking a well-earned vacation by the sea...moreAs the designer of more than 400 chairs (including the Wishbone and Shell chairs), Danish designer Hans Wegner was taking a well-earned vacation by the sea when he had the idea for his Flag Halyard Chair (1950). Sitting on the beach, Wegner noticed how comfortably his back and arms were positioned in the indent he'd made in the sand. Upon returning to his studio, he was determined to recreate that experience in a chair. The result is the Flag Halyard. Today, the third-generation family business PP Møbler produces this chair to Wegner's exacting specifications. It takes a craftsperson an entire day to string the chair, which is wrapped with a single uncut 240-meter piece of flag line, designed to resist unnecessary stretching over time. The luxurious long-haired sheepskin is extremely soft, sourced from humanely managed farms in Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Made in Denmark.
