After gathering and preparing the raffia, the men do all the weaving. Women then embroider and vegetable-dye the cloth, embellishing it with appliqué and patchwork. Our pillow designs are drawn from a huge repertoire of known patterns; two are shown here. Each pillow pattern is unique; all fall within the same color range and display African motifs.
