Design Within Reach Nos Da Picnic Blanket
Details Scottish designer Donna Wilson is well known in the U.K. for her knitted home accessories and quirky cloth dolls. “Knitting means I have complete control over the fabric I create color, pattern and texture as I am making a fabric from a piece of yarn,” she says. “I still find this amazing.” Perfectly patterned in delightful color combinations, Wilson's Nos Da Picnic Blanket (named for a Welsh phrase meaning “good night”) is woven in the traditional English double-cloth method. This special textile doesn't have a post-weaving wash, making it durable and hard wearing. The wool is spun in a Yorkshire mill to create the required thick yarn, and then woven at a 100-year-old mill in Wales. The technique, which dates back to medieval times, allows for Nos Da's complex patterns and surface textures. The blanket (2010) has a waxed canvas backing to insulate you from cool or damp surfaces and to ensure comfortable picnicking over hill and dale. Made in England.
