Italian designer Franco Albini, considered to be among the most important Neo-Rationalist designers, also happened to be the first European to be commissioned by Knoll. Much of his furniture, including the lightly scaled Albini Desk (1938), was designed to make use of the most inexpensive raw materials that were available during World War II, when other materials were scarce. Using just steel, glass and wood, his desk demonstrates a striking clarity and balance, unencumbered by extraneous ornamentation. When used as a freestanding piece, its simple design is appealing from every angle even the drawer pedestal is open in the back for additional storage. Manufactured by Knoll according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A.
