Product Information Folke Arström was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1907. After finishing his education, he began his career in the 1930s as an artist and industrial designer of silver, pewter and bronze items. Arström went on to serve for 20 years as the artistic director for Gense, now one of Europe’s oldest and largest flatware manufacturers. Established in 1856 by Gustav Eriksson, Gense has been associated with fine stainless steel flatware worldwide for over 150 years. It was there that Arström designed his iconic Folke De Luxe Flatware (1955). When Folke was introduced at the H55 exhibition in Helsingborg, Sweden, it gained immediate attention from the international design community, praised not only for its elegance but also for its functionality. Sought by the likes of celebrities such as Grace Kelly, it sold out before it had even reached stores in the U.S. This flatware – cited by The New York Times as “one of the 100 best designed products in modern times” – is constructed of satin-finished stainless steel seamlessly attached to durable black plastic handles.
