EasternMT - Review from Eddie Bauer
All good except for hoodI gave this item three stars for the following reason: The hood is non-removable! I think if the hood was removable (along with the fur ruff), then this coat would be perfect!Other than the hood "issue" the coat is great-it covers your tush for cold metal bleachers and looks really nice and non-puffy for a down jacket. I am able to wear fairly heavy sweaters underneath it, and one can even adjust the waist with the tabs in the back (I find these a little more stylish than the drawstring waist). So far so good! Thanks Eddie Bauer for another great parka!

Warm and durableI bought this coat because the other Eddie Bauer coat I had wasn't keeping me warm in the frigid Chicago winter wind chills. My existing coat was for up to 20 degrees and lately we've been having single digits and negatives for wind chill. I bought this coat online and immediately noticed it was heavier and more durable. I also received a lot of compliments on the color (dusty lavender). The coat is longer and fuller than my existing one. The one thing I'm hoping will fade is the stiffness. The way the coat zips up to cover the chin area is uncomfortable for my frame. I can only zip it all the way up if I'm wearing the hood too. Otherwise, the weight of the hood causes the coat to push against my mouth. My other coat was soft and did not do this even though it zipped up to the same height.Bottom line: try it on first in the store or chance it like me by buying online. Obviously it's not that big of an issue because I'm keeping the coat!

Great for city commutingI bought this coat for winter commuting in NY. It's not too bulky and not too long, so I've even been able to ride my bike in it. It's super warm, so there's no need to layer. The coat has a nice color and shape that sets it apart from every other winter coat out there.

Sadly, not ultrawarm, cold spots in arms.I purchased this coat in 2011 after an exhaustive, frustrating research process; my humble goal was to find a nice replacement for my loyal, superwarm (but not waterproof) 1990 and 1994 down parkas (from competing makers). They're old, but well constructed - they've held up remarkably well.I tried out other EB models, as well as those of three well known competitors. I was dismayed to find the standards have fallen throughout the industry: in every case, the sewn-through construction of the arms proved a drawback: cold spots. And New York City winters are not monstrously cold. I chose the Stadium because the sale price was right, the style worked well for me, and its performance seemed acceptable - a little better than some. I'm fond of it - but it is not a worthy replacement for my old coats. While I realize this is a very negative review ... I do enjoy the coat's fit, its waterproofing, and its ... personality (!) The cold-spot issue is sufficiently annoying to merit an overall 2 star rating.Problem 1: it is NOT an ultrawarm! And I am not overly sensitive to cold. The cold spots begin at 36 degrees F on windy days, with the shoulders. The sewn-through compartments (seams spaced approximately 4") ensure that cold will penetrate at these very intervals for the length of the arm (the upper arm is where I really feel it). There is no way I can imagine getting through a seriously cold winter in this coat without some serious layering. Problem 2: The collar is an engineering disaster - and doesn't seem to have been corrected in the current model - it's as stiff and unforgiving as heavy cardboard, doesn't soften much with time, and hits you in the larynx. A scarf solves this problem for me, but it would be nice to have a proper down / fleece-lined collar. Problem 3 in the 2011 model does seem to have been addressed: the cinching belt / tabs were of flimsy webbing. I see that there are complaints about the new belting, too.My vintage, puffy, 550 fill coats are still in use for really cold days; they are not beautiful, but man, are they warm! Layering is not necessary until the 28F mark. I have a feeling they are of baffle-box construction; it doesn't seem that non-technical parkas are being constructed this way any more - not even the $800 ones, from what I gather!

Stadium Coat * Warmth Just in TimeI purchased the Superior Down Stadium Coat because I was ready to give up freezing at the bus stop. Once it arrived I was convinced I'd made a mistake; that it was too much coat. Then the temperatures dropped well below freezing. My new coat carried me through two weeks of freezing-cold fog, wind and (briefly) blowing snow. I love my coat. It is a great investment. I personally referred it to my friends. No regrets here. Just warm and cozy!
