I purchased a pair of the Five Ten Exum Guide boots and after trekking fewer than 150 miles, probably a lot fewer, over two summers with a light pack the seams ripped out. I called the company and they recommended I find a local shoe repair shop and pay to have them repaired. That will be my last pair of Five Tens since they obviously have a quality control problem.

Despite the silly video, this is a truly serious hiking boot for on or off trail. I have backpacked hundreds of miles in this boot, both on trail and off, in the Grand Canyon and in the Sierra Nevada, including the High Sierra Trail and the John Muir Trail. It has never let me down. The Stealth rubber is the stickiest on wet rock, especially wet limestone as found in some of the more dramatic off-trail Grand Canyon locations. The insole is thin and flat, so I use a custom orthotic beneath it to ensure proper foot support. This has been my go-to hiking boot for up to ten multi-day backpacking trips each year for the past few years.

Very disappointed in the quality of construction. I purchased 2 pairs, which were worn only once a week. Both pairs had the eyelets rip out within 6 months.

Great so far! I have only been on short hikes, but they function as described in other reviews. Ankle support could be better so maybe not the best backpacking boot, but for kicking around the forest these make a comfortable everyday shoe. Order a half size up unless you like your shoes snug.
Eric W - Review from Zappos
Too narrow - toes were pinched. I ordered a 1/2 size up from my street shoes and my right pinkie toe was really squashed. My toes were a little numb on both feet after wearing for only 10 minutes. I really loved the shoe, and I normally wear regular D-width shoes. Maybe a 12 1/2 would work (a full size up from my street shoe size of 11 1/2), but it doesn't appear five-ten makes a 12 1/2 in this shoe. My toes had room in the 12 size, about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch, but width was very tight. Very well constructed, fit like a glove and very sticky soles.
