piero fornasetti was a painter and interior designer in milan. best known for his whimsical approach to design and graphics, fornasetti decorated thousands of items with motifs ranging from the beauty of nature to trompe l'oeil. his most famous production line was "theme and variations', a series of articles based on an image found in a 19th century french magazine. the image was of lina cavalieri, looking as enigmatic as the mona lisa. over 350 variations of the design were produced. dimensions: 10.25" d and are produced by hand to order in the atelier in milan. completely handmade, the plates are still manufactured to the exact specifications passed from piero to his son, barnaba. some versions are also available with a gold background, where noted. in stock as noted we have been asked by many of our clients to show what is available in the series for their collections. some of these items are stocked- we are happy to obtain non-stocked items for you as a special order. more fornasetti (as well as theme & variations plates) will be stocked in our store as our relationship with the firm develops. items not listed as in stock have an 10-12 week delivery.
