Fabulously well made; color not as shownThis shoe is incredibly well made and looks like it will last for years. I ordered a half-size larger than my normal size, because I was planning to wear heavy socks with the shoes, which seems to have been the right decision.Unfortunately, the "cognac" color of the shoes is not the red-brown color you see in the Amazon photo or any of the other photographs of these shoes. They are actually more of a tan/taupe color. I returned my first pair, explaining that the color did not match that shown in the ad, but the second pair I received were exactly the same color. I did consider returning the second pair to see if a third pair might be the "right" color, but decided against it, since I would actually like to wear the shoes at some point.

Great shoe, just not for me.I think this shoe would be adorable on a woman with a small foot. As it was, in a ladies' size 11, it looked like I was wearing my husband's shoes around. They are very well-made: Frye makes amazing products and I have many pairs of Frye shoes (they're almost all I wear!) but this style was really not for me.If you have small feet, anything 9 or below, I'd bet they'd be adorable. If you have great big boat-feet like mine, it will look like you stole some dude's shoes.

Runs Very LongAfter reading other reviews I ordered a size 8 1/2. Normally I wear either 8 1/2 or 9 and have narrow feet. The shoes were too long in the toe so I ordered a size 8. Amazon allowed me to keep the 8 1/2s for 30 days while they shipped the replacements. Still waiting for the replacements and will return the others for free. The shoes are beautiful, I hope that the smaller size works for me.

Shoe like a gloveThis is most expensive pair of shoes I've ever bought...and the most comfortable- right out of the box. They are very well made. My foot is a little wide- but the it is true to size and VERY comfortable- LOVE them! The quality construction will probably last for many, many years to come and they are timeless...I GIVE IT A 4.5!

Absolutely perfect shoes.I've rarely, if ever, spent this much on a pair of shoes. I ordered these because I'm learning to flatfoot dance to old-time music, and these shoes have leather soles. They seemed quaintly old-fashioned as well. When I got them yesterday, I actually gasped because they were so very pretty. They smelled good. The color (I ordered dark brown) was gorgeous.I ordered a half-size down as other reviewers had suggested, and they fit well. The toe area is a little extended, so there's plenty of room, for shoppers who are considering what size to get. My feet are also very wide, and they still fit quite nicely. These also happen to be perfect dancing shoes for buckdancing/flatfooting. The leather sole might be a little slick on carpet at first for normal wear, but I intended for these to be somewhat noisy on a piece of plywood, and they are.The look of the shoe is timeless and classic but at the same time, incongruously modern and very fashionable. They are the perfect smash-up of old-fashioned and hip. The Carson oxfords are very attractive with tight-bottomed skinny pants or footless tights but still echo whispers of retro dancing dresses or "librarian" chic. I'd buy these again in a heartbeat, even if it means eating peanut butter sandwiches for lunch for a month to be able to afford them.
