When I purchased these boots, I thought I'd be in love with them. Instead, I'm just "in like" with them. But for a pair of tall, wide-calf, inexpensive boots (I purchased this item as a ModCloth employee), they are worth the price to me. FIT: I am a solid size 11, so I ordered both the 11 and 10, since the directions say to size down. I'm glad I did! The 11s were definitely too big.The calves are very wide! Almost too wide for my 17-18" calves! And I love it. They make my legs look very slender. And be mindful, they are TALL. I'm 5'9" with long legs, and the fronts cover my kneecaps, and the backs go up to the fold in my knees. But there is elastic in the back, so it doesn't hurt or pinch to walk. Most wide-calf boots, including these, assume you also have wide ankles, which I do not. These boots are no exception; there is a little too much breathing room in the front of the ankle. But the overall slouchy look hides this, and they still work.SMELL: yes, there is a strong chemical smell, like mothballs. A lot of synthetic shoes will off-gas for a few days; that's the price you pay for non-leather goods. I expect this will go away.QUALITY: yep, a little on the cheap side. Sole is thin plastic, and there's not much in the way of insole. (I might put an insole in for my own comfort.) But the stitching seems solid, and the zippers move smoothly.OVERALL: A cute pair of inexpensive, on-trend boots for larger-legged gals. Like!

I did not realize when I ordered these, that these boots go past your need. In my case, waaay past my need, to my mid thigh. I am 5'2". I felt like a fat hooker..not a good look. Also they smelled very, very strong like chemicals. I returned them.

as someone with huge soccer calves (we're talking like nineteen and a half inches around) these boots are a godsend - their only fault is that they are a temporary godsend. as i'm sure everyone can tell by the pictures these boots are very man made. very cheap suede on top, very cheap plasticy bottom. however, the inside is padded though and it feels nice. the shoe part itself does run wide but i am quite thankful for that. they go up above my knees (i am 5' 8" and have long legs) and they kind of interfere with my walking a bit but i like that for some reason. despite all this, i am giving them four stars because i have been looking for wide calf boots forever. i feel like these boots make my legs look slimmer, so if that's worth anything that is definitely a bonus, and although they are made of cheap material i don't think they look outrageously cheap on. by no means are they great or completely worth the price, but beggars can't be choosers i suppose.all things considered, i am happy i bought them since i can't run around in flats much longer. a quick thank you to modcloth for bringing us wide calf boots! i only hope you actively search for others to bring to your website; us wide-calfed ladies feel a bit left out of the tall boot party.
