When Egbert Neuhaus visited the U.S. as a German exchange student in the ’70s, he came across an aluminum household trashcan—and fell in love. He brought the idea home to Wesco, his father’s metal manufacturing company in Germany, which got to work redesigning the device. The distinctive, industrial-strength result inspired an entire family of products, including this Kickboy rubbish bin. A foot pedal opens its stainless steel flap, which seals off odors from garbage stored inside its removable metal liner.
