Lisbeth Salander's First Look

In honor of the upcoming movie, I am making look sheets for Lisbeth Salander's outfits described in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This is the first one:

"Salander was dressed... in a black T-shirt with a picture of E.T. with fangs, and the words I AM ALSO AN ALIEN. She had on a black skirt that was frayed at the hem, a worn-out black, mid-length leather jacket, rivet belt, heavy Doc Martens boots, and horizontally striped, green-and-red knee socks. She had put on make-up in a colour scheme that indicated she might be colourblind. In other words, she was exceptionally decked out."

Obviously, I couldn't find everything exactly as described, but I think this is a pretty good interpretation of it. I especially like the "I am Helvetican" T-shirt.

A literary lady, pencil in hand, an eye for detail and an ear for the right word -- or so I like to imagine myself! I'll be wearing something similar to a convention in Seattle, though the Missoni tights are from Target and most definitely did not cost $200.

The CK be fragrance is a perfect professional cologne -- unisex, not too cloying, but still assertive.

Novel Inspiration #11: Antoinette's Red Dress

In Wide Sargasso Sea, Antoinette's red dress represents her true identity, the one that will be stolen from her piece by piece by Rochester and her displacement from her tropical home to England. The engagement ring from her island look remains. The key represents, as the chains did in the prior look, her eventual imprisonment. The flowers and the perfume are the reminders of her home in Jamaica. Rousse, the name of the scent, means "red-haired" and has notes of spices and flowers, just like the scent that lingers on Anoinette's dress when she is taken to England.
