Once upon a time, a fairy princess held up a bejeweled frog before her, peering at it searchingly.

"What did you say?" the princess asked, her sparkly earrings dancing as she leaned closer.

"I SAID...if you kiss me, I will turn into a handsome prince."

"And if I don't?", said the princess, as she busied herself, slipping on her jaw-dropping satin Louboutin peep-toe platforms.

"Well..uh... I will remain a fabulous little frog brooch destined for this fabulous satin trenchcoat..forever."

She nodded firmly.

"Well..I know what I must do!"

.....and stuck his little rhinestone-encrusted froggie butt to the lapel before grabbing her clutch, and strutting out the door.

It may be a bit early to start talking about high collars and gloves and boots, but I could not resist putting this look together.

The dress's severity, I felt, was better offset by not using jewelery and instead focusing on punchy and characterful accessories.

A look that is dressy, but not without humour, I chose to put together classic black and golden/beige pieces with the seasonal trend of romantic ruffles paired with a quirky watch pendant, a beautiful satin clutch and vintage-inspired earrings. A change of bag and earrings would easily move this look into the daytime hours.

Breezy Safari

Classic summer "safari" styling, perfect for a light tan, alfresco dinner after a day in the sun, and accented elegantly but casually by touches of gold in the shoes and accessories, all of which carry a slightly ethnic feel.

I would wear the shorts slightly oversized, without a belt, letting the jacket define the shape, and ideally without a shirt, to show the necklace off against a bit of skin!
