I believe fashion transcends trends. What we wear shouldn't just look good, it should also be appropriate and have a message.

Contrary to many fashion stylists, I don't think there are any "bad" looks, I just think there are "lost" looks. When you dress without thinking, you lose a very important medium for expressing your thoughts and viewpoints.

SS Parties: Uncle Thomas' Halloween Gala at Versailles

Since the party is held at the Palace of Versailles, I thought I would come as the character Oscar from one of my favorite Japanese graphic novels "La Rose de Versailles."

According to the story, Oscar is a girl who was brought up as a boy because her father wanted a son. She is an expert swordsman and eventually becomes the leader of the palace guards. She is also the close confidante of Marie Antoinette.

It's been a decade (or two...gosh that makes me feel old) since I've read these books, or even thought about it. I did a quick research and saw there is a DVD version of now, so I'm checking if the library or video store has it available for me to borrow and watch. I've also heard the books are pretty historically accurate, which is nice for a graphic novel.

awesome, i've read some japanese to english manga titles, sgt frog (comedy) and hot gimmick (shojo) were my favs. this look is 110% !! great costume!!!

This look was inspired by Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" music video.

In the video, Beyonce shows off her killer bod in a bra, pencil skirt and black pumps. To transform the look into a more wearable outfit (outside of the dressing room, that is), I switched the bra to a lacy corset.
