Rejuvenation Pair of Gigantic Hollywood Prop Shishi Lions
Rejuvenation Pair of Gigantic Hollywood Prop Shishi Lions 

Proud and steadfast, Shishi Lions were symbolic guardians in Imperial China and remain iconic images in Chinese design, architecture and art today. This pair of Shishi Lions does not cone from the Ming Dynasty, and they are not carved from decorative stone. Instead, they are from a Hollywood prop house and are made from papier mache – painted to resemble weathering granite! Today, we've mounted the lions on custom-build stands, featuring bamboo details and a set of hidden casters – easy to move the 6' tall lions from place to place. We imagine these Lions (sometimes known as Foo Dogs in the West) at the entrance to a themed restaurant, as the guardians of your home, or – as they were originally intended – on a stage. As unusual as they are imposing, statement pieces with this kind of history, craftsmanship and character are incredibly hard to come by. Historical Style: Mid-Century *Condition Notes: Plenty of wear in the hand-painted finish. There are areas where the papier mache has broken away, leaving the chicken wire construction visible. One of the lions had a significant portion on its jowl broken, so we rebuilt the section and repainted it to match. See photos 7 and 17 for the best detail of that repair.

Rejuvenation Monumental French Cast Iron Window
Rejuvenation Monumental French Cast Iron Window 

Nearly 200 years old, this incredible cast iron architectural remnant would have been found decorating the windows of a municipal building or impressive manor. Cast iron became a popular alternative building material in the 19th century, as it did not catch fire and was easier to "mass produce." This piece would have held a wooden framed oval window, as it includes a hinged door, which is empty now. You could add a mirror or a paned window today, to turn it into an interesting decorative element. Or, return it to its proper home as the crowning piece to an architectural pediment. Historical Style: Classical Revival Condition Notes: Worn patina on the cast iron, without rust or pitting.
