Design Within Reach Saarinen TulipTM Stool 

Eero Saarinen called himself a “form giver,” and everything he designed – from the Gateway Arch in St. Louis to his Womb Chair to his Pedestal Table – had a strong sculptural quality. “The underside of typical tables and chairs makes a confusing, unrestful world,” said Saarinen. In a 1956 cover story in Time magazine, he announced that he was designing a collection to “clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home.” Later that year, he completed his Pedestal Table and Tulip Chair Collection (1956) with its cast aluminum base inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. The compact and comfortable Tulip Stool has a swivel seat with padded cushion. Each stool is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Eero Saarinen’s signature. This is the authentic Tulip Collection produced by Knoll. Made in Italy. The Tulip Collection is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified®. Materials: Cast-aluminum base with black or white Rilsan®-coated finish; foam cushion with vinyl upholstery. Measurements:H 18" Diameter 15.5"

Design Within Reach 1006 Navy Counter Stool 

Legend has it that Emeco founder Wilton Dinges tested the strength of a 1006 Navy Chair (1944) by tossing it out a sixth-story window. The people on the sidewalk below were a bit surprised, but the chair was fine, with the exception of a few scratches. Today, Emeco still uses the same 77-step process that Dinges perfected seven decades ago to satisfy the militarys need for lightweight, corrosion-resistant chairs for destroyers and submarines. The companys proprietary metal processing method yields aluminum three times stronger than steel – and a chair so durable that it has an estimated life span of 150 years. Emecos all-aluminum chairs and stools come with a lifetime guarantee, and generations from now, when your great-great-grandchildren finally manage to wear out a chair thats tested to withstand 1,700 pounds of weight (big kids), the aluminum can be fully recycled and made into something else. Stainless steel foot caps are covered with clear plastic glides to prevent floor scratches and carpet snags. Stool with brushed finish is suitable for outdoor use. This is the authentic 1006 Navy Stool by Emeco. Made in U.S.A. The Navy Chair design constitutes the proprietary Trade Dress of Emeco, making it illegal for another company to clone this stool. Made from 80% recycled aluminum (40% post-consumer, 40% post-industrial), which requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce virgin aluminum. In continuous production since 1944. Normandie ocean liner, and 80 years after the company was founded, the Tolix name is recognized worldwide as best-in-class furniture. Design Within Reach Sezz Counter Stool
Design Within Reach Sezz Counter Stool 

Christophe Pillet brings simplicity, sensuality and a light touch to his internationally renowned work with Lacoste, Catherine Malandrino, Cappellini, Emu, Renault and others. This French designer was trained in Italy, where he assisted Martine Bedin and Michele De Lucchi, and returned to France in 2003 to launch his own agency. His collaboration with Emeco began in 2009 when Pillet was commissioned by Hotel Sezz to do the interiors for its new St. Tropez location. A contemporary interpretation of beauty, timelessness and industrial heritage, the Sezz Counter Stool (2010) is sleek and inviting. The look is very subtle, says Pillet, but it holds unbelievable quality. You dont see the welding, the recycled aluminum, the indestructibleness – they are all real but invisible values, the hidden territory of a luxury product. The Sezzs engineering challenge was to build the perfect frame to fit the comfortable rounded seat. The solution is a tube design thats bent by hand to hold the deep seat basket, and then, like all Emeco seating, is hand-welded, ground and hardened. The resulting Sezz Collection, built to last lifetimes, combines Emecos traditional heritage with a very modern design. Made in U.S.A. Materials: Anodized aluminum; clear Lexan polycarbonate glides. Design Within Reach Broom Counter Stool
Design Within Reach Broom Counter Stool 

Imagine, says Philippe Starck, a guy who takes a humble broom and starts to clean the workshop, and with this dust he makes new magic. The dust Starck refers to is reclaimed polypropylene and wood fiber, two of the materials used to create his Broom Collection (2012). Starck first drew the shape of his reclaimed, repurposed and recyclable Broom in 2003, but it took a decade to design it in these eco-friendly materials. It made its debut at the 2012 Salone del Mobile in Milan, and as soon as we saw it, we knew it belonged in our assortment. Durable, comfortable, colorful and unique in how it makes use of normally discarded materials, Broom is a smart solution that literally sweeps up waste from the industrial manufacturing cycle. All colors suitable for outdoor use except orange. This is the authentic Broom Stool by Emeco. Made in U.S.A. Made of 90% industrial waste. Broom is a patented design by Philippe Starck for Emeco. Design Within Reach Bertoia Counter Stool with Seat Pad
Design Within Reach Bertoia Counter Stool with Seat Pad 

With his iconic seating collection, Harry Bertoia transformed industrial wire rods into a new furniture form. The events that made this work possible began a decade earlier at Cranbrook Academy of Art, when Bertoia met Florence Knoll (then Florence Schust). Years later, the Italian-born designer was invited to work for Florence and her husband, Hans Knoll. Bertoia was given the freedom to work on whatever suited him, without being held to a strict design agenda, and the result of this arrangement was the Bertoia Seating Collection (1952). Featuring a delicate filigreed appearance thats supremely strong, these airy seats are sculpted out of steel rods. In his art, Bertoia experimented with open forms and metal work, and these chairs were an extension of that work. If you look at the chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture, said Bertoia. Space passes through them. After designing his seating collection, Bertoia returned to focusing mostly on sculpture. This is the authentic Bertoia Stool produced by Knoll. The Knoll logo is stamped into its base. Stool made in Italy; seat pad made in U.S.A. The White and Black frames can be used outdoors with limited exposure to the elements. The Chrome frame is not for outdoor use. Seat pad is secured to chair with metal snaps. Materials: Welded steel rods; polished chrome finish with chrome connections or bonded Rilsan® finish with stainless steel connections; vinyl seat pad (65% polyester; 35% rayon). Design Within Reach 1951 Counter Stool 

After an eBay auction turned up a chair made by Emeco in 1951, the company decided to bring it back into production. However, since it was originally made for Navy hospitals, the chair needed a few modifications. Emeco invited Adrian van Hooydonk and his team at BMW Group DesignworksUSA to join the project. In the same way that the original Mini Cooper relates to the new Mini, everyone was in favor of maintaining the original 1951 Chairs simple utilitarian style and aluminum construction, but the lines and surfaces had to be reconsidered. They also wanted to expand the collection to include a Counter Stool and Barstool. Slightly reshaped, the new 1951 Collection (2005) has more attitude and a frame that's stackable for storage. New materials include durable molded ABS plastic and 80% recycled aluminum. The 1951 in white is suitable for outdoor use. Made in U.S.A. Materials: Anodized brushed aluminum; ABS plastic. DWR Exclusive The Sonno Versa (2003) brings unprecedented versatility to shared beds. It comprises two individual reversible mattress halves placed side by side snugly inside a cover made of CoolMax, a patented ventilating fabric that wicks away moisture to help the body maintain an ideal temperature while sleeping.
