Rejuvenation Polished Chrome 5-Light Transitional Cup Chandelier
Rejuvenation Polished Chrome 5-Light Transitional Cup Chandelier

From the 1930’s through the 1950’s, the higher-end avant garde styles played second fiddle to the more accessible, popular everyday designs, which we now consider “Traditional.” Bead-chain and center-post fixtures with floral or thematic patterns were some of the most common forms of the day, ubiquitous in less formal parts of the home. Soft, feminine tones of pink, yellow, peach and pale blue are common, especially in the pressed, patterned glass shades. Historical Style: Traditional With feet in two camps: traditional Colonial Revival and forward-thinking Art Deco. Unique faceted spherical glass break above the column. Lovely fluted cup shades. Rejuvenation Exceptionally Rare Gas Hoop Pendant
Rejuvenation Exceptionally Rare Gas Hoop Pendant

Popular for basic lighting needs from the 1870s well into the early 1900s, hoop gas fixtures were widely used in functional, utilitarian spaces like stores, shops, and work spaces. However this example is a bit more unique due to the delicate Neo Grec details: note the brass wings at the hips of the hoop, the ornate gas cock, and charming stamped smoke bell. These Classical elements are carried through in the frosted and etched shade, which features swirling acanthus leaves, woodland creatures and pinstriping. Be sure to take a close look at the third and fourth photos to examine the details of this incredible shade. Today, even though it has transcended over 140 years, we imagine this fixture would be an ideal addition to any home as an entry way pendant or as the focal point in an impressive stairwell. Historical Style: Neo Grec Notes: Fixture has been repaired in spots and the smoke bell has some defects (see 5th photo) Canopy was added as this originally gas fixture would not have had a canopy Also would have had a glass chimney inside the shade, although we think it looks just wonderful as is Bulbs not included.

Rejuvenation Victorian 2-Light Pendant w/ Reeded Motif
Rejuvenation Victorian 2-Light Pendant w/ Reeded Motif

With feet in both the 19th and 20th centuries, the Victorian era saw a huge transformation of lighting technology and the evolution of many styles. The period began with gas-powered lighting, which transitioned to electricity just before the turn of the century. During that exciting time, unusual fixtures were made to utilize both technologies: gas-electric combination lights. While fixtures are often formal, bordering on ostentatious, the many variations (including Eastlake, Aesthetic, Rococo, Empire, etc.) are typically characterized by the Victorian love of ornamentation and detail. Because the light provided by gas and early bulb technology was very dim by today’s standards, the fixtures were frequently furnished with incredible glass shades. Frosted, etched, mirrored, prismatic – all of these shade designs were meant to show off or magnify the light, which feebly emanated from flickering flames and filaments. Historical Style: Victorian Densely reeded body and rod, with the reeds even persisting through the socket-covers. Lovely ruffled shades with sunflower etched patterns. Bulbs not included.

Rejuvenation Rare Perforated Porcelain Pendant
Rejuvenation Rare Perforated Porcelain Pendant

This late 1960s light charmingly combines the geometric with the organic: the punched holes form what are likely, given the flower power in the air at the time, highly stylized flowers. The precise shape indicates its been made in a slipcast mold rather than thrown on the pottery wheel, but the fact that it's clay in the first place gives it an earthy feel. While small starlight pinpricks were all the rage in the 1950s and early 1960s, this evolution into larger and more varied holes is fun – they both obscure and reveal the light, creating a more dramatic dance of light on the walls and ceilings that prefigures the coming disco age.
