Spanish designer Jaime Hayon immersed himself as a teenager in both skateboard culture and graffiti art, which lie at the core of the bold and whimsical forms that he creates today. In 1997, after studying industrial design in Madrid and Paris, he joined Fabrica, a research center in Treviso, Italy, where he soon became the head of design. Hayon struck out on his own in 2003, first devising collections of ceramics and furniture, then delving into interior design. His work is featured in several museums and has received accolades from the likes of Time and Wallpaper . Réaction Poétique commemorates the 50-year anniversary of Le Corbusiers death, inspired by the organic shapes of his architecture and LEsprit Nouveau artwork. I wanted to create useful objects for the modern home such as trays and side tables, but with sculptural elements interplaying forms, light and shadow, says Hayon. These pieces can be used for everything from passing hors doeuvres to displaying knickknacks. Each is carved and finished by hand and includes a card of authenticity. Made in Italy. Materials: Solid ash wood; matte black stain. Measurements:H 9.25" W 12" D 9.25"

An immediate success, Cylinda Line was awarded the 1967 ID Prize by the Danish Design Council, and pieces of the line are included in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Design Within Reach Granit Salt and Pepper Shaker Set

DWR Exclusive In 1926, the Kispester-Granit factory in Budapest hired Eva Zeisel, who was 20 years old at the time, as a designer. It was only her first job, but the company was so impressed with her initial work that they created a special art department for her. The employees, who normally produced ceramic sinks, all wanted to work with Zeisel as she brought elegant vases, whimsical rhinoceros-shaped ashtrays and beautiful teapots into the product mix. The factory closed her department after just one year, but the experience sparked a brilliant career. Almost 60 years later, Zeisel returned to the factory and designed the Granit Collection (1983). Though widely exhibited, the set – which features her signature fluid, sensuous curves – wasnt put into production until 2009. DWR worked closely with Zeisel to ensure that Granit adheres to her exacting standards. I like the way the very thin, hard edges of the plates change into a soft, inviting bellybutton, she said. All the pieces together make a very nice family. The plates and bowls each feature a dimple in the center, and their matte white finish offers a neutral backdrop for culinary delights. This collection is food, microwave and dishwasher safe. Made in China. Materials: Stoneware. Measurements:Salt Shaker: H 4" Diameter: 3.25" Pepper Shaker: H 4" Diameter: 3.25"
