Design Within Reach Well Pendant
Design Within Reach Well Pendant 

DWR Exclusive Originally known as Davey & Co., the company was established in 1885 and has roots dating back to the shipyards of 19th-century London. Its clients back then were the marine merchants operating out of London's West India Docks, and Davey Lights graced the decks of many of history's best-known vessels, including, it is said, the Titanic. Architects and designers have been longtime fans of Davey's industrial aesthetic, like their Well Pendant (2005), and satisfying the needs of this market helped the company continue to thrive. When manufacturing challenges brought the threat of closure, Peter Bowles stepped in and purchased the company. As part of Original BTC, which Bowles founded, Davey Lighting now supplies marine, industrial and decorative lighting to residential and contract customers – making Davey available to the public (instead of only to the trade) for the first time. All components are handcrafted by small specialist suppliers according to centuries-old traditions. Bulb (not included) 60W/GLS/E26. UL Listed. Made in England. Light is supplied as standard with 1.5 meters (approx. 5 feet) of cable, stainless steel wire and a ceiling hook plate. This pendant is for indoor use only. Materials: Galvanized iron; brass suspension loop; clear well glass; stainless steel wire. Measurements:H 13" W 4", 4 lbs.

In a 1956 Time magazine cover story, Eero Saarinen said that the underside of typical tables and chairs makes a confusing, unrestful world and he was designing a new collection to clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home. Later that year, he completed his Pedestal Table (1956), whose form was inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. This iconic table features a cast-aluminum base with abrasion-resistant Rilsan finish and a solid marble, wood veneer or laminate tabletop. Each is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Eero Saarinens signature. This is the authentic Saarinen Pedestal Table by Knoll. Design Within Reach Tolix Marais Two-Seater Dining Table
Design Within Reach Tolix Marais Two-Seater Dining Table 

Metalworker Xavier Pauchard not only brought the art of galvanizing steel to France but also took the process to the next level by creating the Marais A Chair (1934). The quintessential cafe chair, it was both elegant and robust enough to grace the decks of the S.S. Normandie ocean liner. After the death of Pauchard in 1948, his son Jean took over as managing director of Tolix and soon filled a void in the collection by designing a Dining Table (1955) to go with his fathers A Chair. Eighty years after the company was founded, the Tolix name is recognized worldwide as best-in-class furniture. All Tolix furniture is still made in Autun, the same Burgundy town where the company first began. Design Within Reach Super Elliptical Extension Table
Design Within Reach Super Elliptical Extension Table 

Essentially a merging of an oval and rectangle, the super ellipse shape was initially defined by Danish poet/mathematician Piet Hein as a solution to an urban planning problem in Sweden. The year was 1959, and a new motorway was replacing Stockholms Sergels Square. Improving the efficiency of traffic through the area was crucial, and Heins newly defined shape satisfied this need. Hein soon came to believe that the super ellipse was the most visually pleasing shape for any number of applications, including sports arenas, swimming pools and, of course, dining tables. Hein first collaborated with designer Bruno Mathsson on a line of super elliptical desks; their Super Elliptical Tables were designed for Fritz Hansen in 1968. Fritz Hansen introduced this extension version in 1988. Seating 12 people (though its possible to squeeze a few more in at the gently rounded corners), the table comes with two self-storing extension leaves. With a lighter profile than most extension tables, the Super Elliptical has polished chrome legs that support an easily cleaned white laminate top. With both leaves inserted, a subtle bowing occurs in the center of the table – this is not a defect. Full expansion is intended for special occasions; use one or no leaves for daily use. Original design and licensed manufacture by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland. Materials: Polished chrome steel legs and base; white laminate top; aluminum banding. Measurements:H 28.5" W 71"–118" D 47.25"
