In 1954, designer Roger Vivier was credited with creating the first ever stiletto heel. Known as the Faberge of footwear, he designed extravagant, richly decorated footwear that used silk, pearls, beads, lace, appliqué and jewels. Stars such as Ava Gardner, Gloria Guiness and The Beatles were all customers of Vivier, and he also designed shoes for Queen Elizabeth II for her coronation in 1953. Today, Roger Vivier's chic flats are crafted from equally luxurious materials including satin, suede and patent leather, with many featuring his signature buckle and Swarovski crystals.
