D.A.P. Jean Prouve Jean Nouvel: Ferembal House

Jean Prouvés Ferembal House was built in Nancy, France, in 1948, as the office for a can factory. Occupying less than 600 square feet in a single story, the prefabricated structure was a classic example of Prouvés advocacy of mobile architecture. Thirty years later, however, the company went out of business and the factory was demolished, but not before a Nancy resident had the wherewithal to dismantle and preserve Prouvés innovative building, putting it into storage. In 1991, design dealer Patrick Seguin traveled to Nancy to locate the Ferembal House. He spent the next decade raising funds to renovate it, working in tandem with Prouvé experts, and in 2007 invited architect Jean Nouvel to undertake a creative adaptation of the house. This comprehensive account of Prouvés posthumous collaboration with Nouvel recounts the tale of the Ferembal House with archival photographs and plans of the original structure as well as a detailed account of Nouvels inspired interventions. D.A.P. Robert Polidori: Hotel Petra
D.A.P. Robert Polidori: Hotel Petra

This book is Robert Polidoris portrait of the interiors of the now demolished Hotel Petra in Beirut, a grand icon of the citys prewar history. The Hotel Petra was once one of the most popular hotels in Beirut. After the Lebanese Civil War of 197590, Rafiq alHariri founded a holding company, Solidere, whose goal was the selective demolition and reconstruction of downtown Beiruts urban fabric. In 1992, the Hotel Petra was set aside for later restoration, and from that moment essentially cut off from any human intervention. Polidori gained access to this site in 2010, and was transfixed by what he discovered: Its truly rare to find examples of such undisturbed decomposition, he explains. Usually the normal wear and tear of human traffic would violate and destroy the surfaces of such a delicate ecosystem of layered paint. I came to view these walls as a living process of slow decay whose end effect closely resembled the concerns of many contemporary abstract painters.
