Jimmy Choo was born in Malaysia in 1948 to a family of shoemakers. The family name is actually Chow, but because of a misspelling on his birth certificate, he became Jimmy Choo. He graduated in 1983 from Cordwainer's Technical College, now known as the London College of Fashion. He worked part time as a janitor in a shoe factory to help pay for expenses. After graduating, he opened his own shoemaking business. He launched Jimmy Choo, Ltd in 1996 along with British Vogue magazine editor Tamara Mellon.
Choo currently concentrates on the exclusive Jimmy Choo Couture line. The company has continued producing high-end shoes for women along with handbags, accessories, and now, Jimmy Choo men’s shoes.
