Sweet orange is one of the ultimate pick-me-ups. And, a scent that eradicates the other scents. Sweet orange cultivars can be categorized into four distinct groups: Round oranges, navel oranges, blood oranges, and acid-less oranges. Navel orange history suggests that the navel orange has been grown in the Mediterranean region for several hundred years. The Portuguese probably introduced navel oranges to brazil. 'Washington', the most economically important navel cultivar, is believed to have originated as a mutation in brazil during the nineteenth century prior to its introduction to the united states in 1870. It is this Washington navel that is the basis for Demeter's sweet orange, a bright, sweet citrus scent based upon essential oil pressed from the peel of the fruit. Imagine peeling a beautiful enormous navel orange in the winter and that cloud of zest that sprays into the air when you tear the peel, that is Demeter fragrance library sweet orange.
What's up tiger lily? Demeter's version is sweet, bright medium-volume floral. These flowers are actually native to china and japan. It does not ripen seed but is propagated from the bulbs produced in the axils of the leaves which should yield flowering bulbs in three years from the time of planting-so if one wants tiger lilies, one must be patient.

Baihao Yinzhen is a deeper, green scent with heavier wood notes complimented by lighter citrus tones. It is more complex, masculine and deeper that it's Silvery Tip cousin. Scholars and tea merchants generally disagree as to when the first production of white tea (as it is understood in China today) began. What is today known as white tea may have come into creation in the last two centuries. Of all kinds of teas, white tea contains the most antioxidants. The particular amount and ratio of the polyphenol compounds found in tea varies widely from one type to another, due to the variation between strains of Camellia sinensis, as well as the preparation process itself. These polyphenol compounds have been shown to protect against certain types of cancer.
A beautiful bright, tart blend of citrus with soothing base notes of black tea. Fortnum and mason in London, and of course Paris' fachoun, sell wonderful grapefruit tea blends. A friend brought a package back to us and inspiration struck. By Nas Wisdom be leaking’ out my grapefruit.
Bright, fresh, tangy citrus is the dominant sensation of our version of raspberry. It seems impossible to smell this and not smile. We’ve captured the memory of a perfect summer day in a bottle.

“Invite a person to a log cabin in the woods for a weekend. The true personality emerges every time.” - Anne LA bastille, woods woman i: Living alone in the Adirondack wilderness Demeter's log cabin is all about the wood, Texas cedar for a touch of smokiness, Virginia cedar for sweetness, oak moss to smooth rough edges and add just a touch of green: All melded together over time and weathered. Step into another time and place without breaking the bank.

Everyone has the talent to some degree: Even making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you know whether it tastes better to you with raspberry jam or grape jelly, on chewy pumpernickel or white toast. Anna shapiro, 'a feast of words' (1996) this is more important than it seems as the average American child will eat 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by high school graduation. We will take ours with raspberry jam Demeter-style, and sweet and succulent, bursting with fruit and poignant with memories.
Demeter fragrance library's lotus flower is a unique study of contrasts: An exotic floral that is soft and powdery and in no way overwhelming. Light green notes and a gentle, watery undercurrent soften it further. A very peaceful scent that still makes a statement. Lotus flowers have been used throughout history in southeast Asia. They are a regular feature of Buddhist and Hindu art, architecture and literature, where they are symbolically important, coming to represent immortality and resurrection because people observed that they would grow from the bottom of dried up pools after the monsoon rains.
Have you ever stopped to think about your "irresistible list"? You know what I mean - things that always get your attention, make your heart beat faster? It's either a blessing or a curse, depending on how you choose to look at it, that I've always leaned somewhat toward self-indulgence. Therefore, my list of irresistible is rather long. Very close to the top is one of the simplest, most basic, yet most satisfying, comforting desserts in all the world: Vanilla cake, or more to the point, vanilla cake batter. Is there any better memory than licking the bowl and mom's big spoon?.
A rich, classic note used in the kitchen and in fragrance, it has taken us years to get this just right and wearable. But we did. Our Clove is a warm, sweet and beautifully aromatic scent.
This positively enveloping scent is sweet and warm as a summer's day. By zz top she had a west coast strut that was sweet as molasses, but what really knocked me out was her cheap sunglasses.
The softest, gentlest Rose scent imaginable, our version of Bulgarian Rose is delightfully authentic and precious. Harvested by hand, Bulgarian Rose oil is known as "liquid gold", because it takes more than 1,300 rose blossoms to create one gram of rose oil!
Demeter's chipotle pepper develops with an earthy, but mild spiciness, representative of the heat and distinctive smokiness that has made chipotle a favorite American flavor. The scent, however, is very clean and fresh, while retaining some of the spice. Interestingly enough, chipotles are late season jalapeño peppers that are allowed to ripen to a deep red. Then, when they have the lowest moisture content, they are picked and smoked for several days. Generally, 10 pounds of jalapeño will make 1 pound of chipotle.
Sophisticated and alluring, Asian Pear is a smooth, less sweet, and much more fragrant version than the more typical European pears we are used to eating in the United States. We chose the Asian pear as our target because we thought it eminently more wearable than European Pears, enhanced with naturally occurring notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. Most Asian pears look remarkably like apples. Not only do they look like apples, they have the crunchiness of an apple. They also do not take on the grainy texture we think of as a normal pear. Instead Asian Pears stay smooth inside.
Provence meadow by Demeter fragrance library is a soft green scent, informed by the herbs of province, including fennel, basil, rosemary and thyme, as well as leaves of lavender. While we normally think of herbs of province in their dried form for cooking, in typical Demeter fashion, we use fresh, living herbs to achieve this unique result.
Cinnamon and sugar, all sticky and sweet. With amazing benefits? Who . Alan Hirsch, neurologist and psychiatrist, and director of Chicago's smell and taste treatment and research foundation, discovered that men became sexually stimulated when they smelled the aroma of cinnamon rolls.
A light and sheer citrus fragrance, Blackberry Pie has unusual body and depth. The depth comes from the wild blackberry, which is the center of this fragrance, supported by peach and topped with lemon. It is unusual to center a fragrance around blackberry, and that unique perspective is both apparent and well served in this one-of-a-kind scent.
You know how it smells right after you have finished cleaning glass and it’s squeaky-clean? Our Clean Windows is just like that moment captured in a bottle, the way only Demeter Fragrance Library can!
Black ginger is a rare variation on ginger with black leaves so shiny and smooth that they appear lacquered. Demeter's black ginger is an invigorating spicy ginger scent, with touches of eastern spice and ginger flowers. It is unique and unusual, in a manner that is classically Demeter.
An intensely aromatic fragrance that is deep and resinous. Demeter’s cardamom is perfectly balanced and restrained so as to not overwhelm. It's completely natural construction adds both warmth and balance. Cardamom is one of the most expensive spices by weight, so it follows that this is one of the most expensive fragrance oils in the entire library. And it smells it.
Deep, rich and exotic, dark chocolate by Demeter is a silky smooth, absolutely sensual and indulgent chocolate fragrance. Dark chocolate history goes back at least 3000 years. What began, as a bitter drink in the pre-historic tropics of South America has become one of the world's most popular treats. Dark chocolate was the only form of chocolate until the addition of milk in the 19th century, so chocolate history is really the history of dark chocolate.
Saltwater taffy is composed of sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup, glycerin, water, butter, salt, food coloring and various flavors, natural and synthetic. Contrary to popular belief, the taffy contains no salt water (seawater). It does, however, contain both salt and water, and thus the name as well as the distinct taste and smell. Demeter's saltwater taffy, with hints of vanilla and caramel, captures that salty sweetness perfectly. Legend has it that in 1889 in Atlantic city, candy store owner David Bradley's shop was flooded during a major storm. As a result of the flood, his entire stock of taffy was soaked with salty Atlantic ocean water. When a young girl came into his shop and asked if he had any taffy for sale, he is said to have offered some "salt water taffy." at the time it was a joke, because all his taffy had been soaked with salt water, but the girl was delighted. She bought the candy and proudly walked down to the beach to show her friends. Bradley's mother was in the back and heard the exchange. She loved the name, and so saltwater taffy was born. Saltwater taffy is also a personal creation for me, because when I was a child my grandparents used to bring back salt water taffy every time they went to Atlantic city, which was a regular stop on their itinerary. Somehow the special smell and taste of that taffy is inexorably tied into the loving memories of them.
Autumn in the northeast USA bottled. Sensual and intoxicating, Demeter's bonfire captures the scent of burning maple leaves on a cool, crisp fall new England day, a decidedly American point of view. We remember a less complicated and less regulated time, when we would rake the fallen, dried maple leaves from the lawn into large piles, which our fathers would burn, making the bonfires of our youth. The best part about the beginning of November in Britain is the fact that no sooner has trick or treating finished, preparations for bonfire night begin. Bonfire night can be traced directly to events that occurred around the beginning of November in 1605, known as the gunpowder plot, an attempt to overthrow the government of king James and the church of England. It was on the 5th of November 1605 that our (anti-) hero guy Fawkes was caught red handed in the cellars of the houses of parliament with several barrels of gunpowder (according to sources, the actual number varies between 20 and 36, suffice to say, it was enough ). Mr. Fawkes and his fellow were tried as traitors and executed.
Lemon meringue by Demeter is a bright and bold full-bodied lemon scent without any of the bitterness or shrillness that lemon can have. It has creamy vanilla undertones without becoming sugary or sweet. The fresh lemon cream is the star of this beautifully balanced fragrance. The chemistry of meringue is quite fascinating. When egg whites are beaten, some of the hydrogen bonds in the proteins breakdown, causing the proteins to "denature", or unfold and change shape. This change in structure leads to the stiff consistency required for meringues. The addition of cream of tartar causes the proteins to change even more, helping to create the desired firm peaks.
Demeter’s grape leaf is rich, full and fresh, inspired by a drive through the Napa valley in California. When we got onto the road, just above Napa, right about, we rolled down the car windows. In flooded that wonderful odor of grape leaves baking in the sun. It was unlike anything we had ever smelled. We got down into the vines and smelled. It smelled different at different times of day, and, in fact and the vinters confirmed this the smell is different on different sides of the road where the soil changes.
Radiant and sensual, Demeter's red poppies is inspired by one of the most abundant and popular wildflowers. Red poppies captures the sensation of resting in a field of wildflowers on a warm summer's eve. Or just skip the hard part and spray it on.
Dominant and delicious chocolate fudge, combines with whipped cream and vanilla, topped with a cherry, all blended subtly. Enjoy the richness, and the lack of calories.
The kamikaze cocktail is named after the Japanese kamikaze suicide pilots of world war ii. The name probably comes from the drink's usual effect on its drinker, caused by a high but well-masked alcohol content, coupled with a tendency to drink them as shooters. While there are many stories of how the kamikaze started, most agree that in 1940, it began in the British royal navy as the gimlet and was a means of preventing scurvy. The popularity of the gimlet peaked in the 1960s and transformed into the kamikaze. Our kamikaze combines vodka orange liqueur and a giant boost of fresh lime always refreshing and reminiscent of hot Hawaiian nights.
Christmas in New York is a special time in a special place. It took the genius of Demeter fragrance library to capture that special moment in time in scent: Egg nog, spices, apples and roasting chestnuts, all the elements that are uniquely New York at Christmas-time. Christmas in New York: A unique olfactory experience, created by Demeter fragrance library.
Crisp, clean and cool mountain air. Endless evergreen. Crystal clear water. This fragrance is a personal attempt to capture one of the most amazing vacations of my life. Alaskan license plates read "the last frontier”, and they speak the truth. The scope and majesty of the place is impossible to capture, but it was too important to me. I had to try.
Sweet, fresh, light and green. Bamboo regenerates itself eternally. The life span of a single bamboo is only about 20 years, but the grove stands forever. It is from the new, smaller shoots of the bamboo plant, very green with a light, fruity tone, that the delicate green scent of Demeter's bamboo cologne is derived.
A bold, fresh evergreen and woody fragrance capturing the unique scent of the majestic giant sequoia. These trees are generally considered the largest living organisms on earth. It is hard to be anything but awed in their presence. Giant sequoia from Demeter fragrance library captures the scent of that awesome power.
Demeter’s chocolate mint is not a mixture of chocolate and mint, but the actual chocolate mint herb. Used in desserts, cookie and ice cream, chocolate mint reminds us of a "thin mint" cookie.
Demeter’s devil’s food is a deep, dark chocolate scent, as deep and rich as the traditional dessert itself. Devil’s food cake is usually thought of in terms of dark chocolate, but originally it was red. This was due to a chemical reaction between early varieties of cocoa and baking soda, which also gave the cake a soapy taste.
