Valentino Women's Sandals
4.1K itemsValentino Garavani once said, "I don't think any man in the world wants to go out with a woman dressed like a boy." During the era of the mini skirt in the 1960s, the Italian designer leaned toward full-length gowns and skirts of ultimate femininity, a look echoed now in the Valentino gladiator sandal.
Relish in red, one of Valentino's signature colors with the Rockstud Sandal. This Valentino gladiator sandal style is fashioned of red patent leather in a strappy design and embellished with goldtone studs, side buckle, and stiletto heels. A delightful version of the Valentino gladiator sandal is found in the oh-so-feminine pink Rockstud Jelly Sandal. In a low-cut silhouette, these comfortable flats feature edgy studs and are topped with a signature bow.
Valentino Garavani was born in 1932 in Voghera, Italy. He began his career in the world of fashion by working as an apprentice for local designers. At the age of 17, he left for Paris to study at the elite École des Beaux-Arts and at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. He later worked with designers Jacques Fath, Jean Desses, Balenciaga, and Guy Laroche. He moved back to Italy in 1959 and opened a fashion house on Rome's Via Condotti. The next year he met future business partner Giancarlo Giammetti. The pair's international breakthrough came in 1962 in Florence. During the era when Italy was the fashion capital of the world, his all-white collection became highly successful in Rome. Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Princess Margaret underscored his success by becoming celebrity clients.
Over the next three decades, the iconic V logo became a part of the wardrobe of the world's most glamorous women including Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow. The celebrated designer retired in 2007 by presenting his last prêt-à porter women's show in Paris. His career lives on with his fabulous designs.
