True to the legendary Cosmo, this fragrance is an inviting and refreshing combination of Vodka, Cranberry Juice, a hint of Lime Juice and a touch of Cointreau. Maybe it will evoke memories of a sunset on the pier, or maybe an elegant black tie affair. Our own favorite is the lobby bar at the Mission Inn in Sonoma, California, right after we check in, before even going to the room. Regardless of the time, place or person Demeter's Cosmopolitan Cocktail evokes for you, rest assured, you will feel and smell wonderful!
Demeter's incense is a warm, deep, rich blend of exotic notes. It is inviting and enveloping, the kind of scent that is both simple and complex at the same time. There is no effort needed to appreciate it, yet every time you experience incense from Demeter you will find new depth and nuance. Demeter's incense is centered on a unique core of copal. Copal is a type of resin produced by plant or tree secretions, particularly identified with the forms of aromatic tree resins used by the cultures of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica as a ceremonially burned incense, as well as for a number of other purposes. More generically, the term copal is now also used to describe resinous substances in an intermediate stage of polymerization and hardening between more viscous and 'gummy' resins and amber.
Baihao Yinzhen is a deeper, green scent with heavier wood notes complimented by lighter citrus tones. It is more complex, masculine and deeper that it's Silvery Tip cousin. Scholars and tea merchants generally disagree as to when the first production of white tea (as it is understood in China today) began. What is today known as white tea may have come into creation in the last two centuries. Of all kinds of teas, white tea contains the most antioxidants. The particular amount and ratio of the polyphenol compounds found in tea varies widely from one type to another, due to the variation between strains of Camellia sinensis, as well as the preparation process itself. These polyphenol compounds have been shown to protect against certain types of cancer.
In 200 ad, famous Greek physician Hippocrates, recommends sweet apples with meals as aids to digestion and sour apples only for fainting and constipation. Of course Hippocrates never had the advantage of tasting a sour apple lollipop. If he had, he undoubtedly would have understood that it was neither about fainting nor constipation, but about that incredible burst of flavor set off by the opposites-attract combination of fruity-sweet and tart that sour apple lollipop encompasses-and that Demeter's sour apple lollipop expresses like no one else can. The origin of lollipops is widely disputed. There does not seem to be an answer that everyone agrees on, so it remains one of life's little mysteries. What is not mysterious is how they bring back childhood memories for almost all of us. Credit for mass production of lollipops is contested by Wisconsin and California, while the origin of the "candy on a stick" concept is even murkier.
Coriander is an extremely popular spice with a pleasing lemony flavor. Its aroma can often be detected in Asian and European cooking, and is the basis for Demeter's coriander tea fragrance. From the old testament: And the house of Israel called the name thereof manna: And it was like coriander seed.

This is simply the freshest, cleanest scent imaginable. We don't know if anyone can tell us why, but this may be the most comforting, comfortable scent in the library. Cantrell, having noticed that personal washing machines are a luxury many of his neighbors cannot afford, opens the first laundromat, in fort worth, Texas. Soon thereafter, household appliances will get a facelift as the popularity of streamline design grips America. At Demeter, we celebrate April 18th as the inspiration for the freshest, cleanest scent we know, our version of laundromat cologne.
DEMETER BLACK PEPPER - COLOGNE SPRAY
Lilac was launched by the design house of Demeter.
A beautiful, slightly lemony and bright green scent Demeter's geranium will become a favorite. This is the scent of the leaves of the geranium bourbon, a sometimes hard-to-get oil that comes mostly from Reunion island via Cairo.
A deep, rich, full bodied exotic wood scent, with a touch of spice. Pretty much what a man should smell like.
Reminiscent of rich vanilla with touches of cinnamon, saffron, almond and clove, the journey of the humble Tonka bean into a staple of perfumery began in 1793, when cultivation of this native south American plant began in France as a tropical tree with beautiful purple flowers, each containing one wrinkled, black bean. Demeter's flowering Tonka bean adds the light crispness of the flower to the more traditional scent of the bean, creating an interesting and integrated contrast between the bean and the flower. The Tonka bean played a role in south American pagan and occult traditions before finding fame in perfumery. In addition to being used in an herbal tea to boost immunity, legend provides that holding the bean while whispering a wish will lead to its fulfillment.
Demeter's dust scent is based upon the typical fine bits of fabric or dirt from around the house that gives off that familiar and comfortable odor. Our universe is a very dusty place. Dust usually shows its presence by blocking out light emitted from stars or nebula behind it, sometimes creating the illusion of a horse's head or a sombrero hat. But nobody really knows what a typical interstellar dust grain looks like. By studying how dust absorbs, emits, and reflects light, astronomers do know that interstellar dust is much different than the cell and lint based dust, found around a typical house.
Cucumber is one of our original scents and still one of our favorites. Demeter's cucumber is the very best of the modern version. It’s all about the juicy garden freshness, light and sweet, like picking cucumbers just before dawn, when the summer dew is still on the plants and the air itself is perfume.
Demeter's gardenia is the delicate scent of fresh blooming gardenias still on the bush. Unlike traditional gardenia perfumes, we have created a classic, rich and creamy floral scent inspired by the living flower , instead of being overpowering. We achieved this by finding a way to remove the chemical indole, the culprit in gardenia, that causes the rotting meat smell in some flowers of this type. Without indole, you get a big, lovely, creamy, happy flower. And happy gardenia wearers.
Cinnamon, sugar, and all buttery. And amazing benefits? Who knew? Dr. Alan Hirsch, neurologist and psychiatrist, and director of Chicago's smell and taste treatment and research foundation, discovered that men became sexually stimulated when they smelled the aroma of cinnamon rolls. What more need be said?.

Incense used in the catholic church is a granulated aromatic resin, obtained from certain trees in eastern and tropical countries, especially from those of the terebinth family. At Demeter, we find the scent so pleasing, we made it available all the time, every day. When sprinkled upon a glowing coal in the "censer (a bowl, provided with a cover, the whole being generally adorned with gilding and ornaments and suspended from chains, so that it may be swung to and fro for the better diffusion of the sweet odor), it burns freely and emits an abundant white smoke of very fragrant odor. Various spices are sometimes mixed with the resin to increase its fragrance. We find in the scriptures many references to the use of incense in jewish worship. We do not know exactly when the catholic church began using incense. There is no evidence that it was employed in Christian worship until about the fifth century, although when we consider to what an extent it was used in the rites of Judaism and how many times it is mentioned in the scriptures, it seems probable that incensing, as a part of the catholic ceremonial, goes back to an earlier day. At the present day, the use of incense forms a rather prominent feature of the more solemn services of the church.
Extracted from the white flowers of the Orange Tree, and a traditional element used in perfume making, this is one of the most popular of flowers in perfume making. Our version is full, lush and exquisite. Just like the living flower on a gentle breeze on a warm summer's eve.
Just as you imagine. Ripe, juicy, mouthwatering and oh so refreshing. Need we say more. Butter blush. Invigorating, to say the least.
A fascinating and unique "foodie floral" that opens with vanilla and chocolate, then combines with green leaves, jasmine, lily of the valley, amber and precious woods, Demeter's moonbeam captures the dual nature of the moonbeam, reflecting elements of both the innocence of light and the passion of night.

Lullaby and goodnight. This scent says chill out. Demeter's Lavender is powdery, soft and enveloping. Like most Demeter florals, it is inspired by the living plant, and is not some reductive, perfumed version of Lavender. Lavender is a shrubby plant indigenous to the mountainous regions of the countries bordering the western half of the Mediterranean, and cultivated extensively for its aromatic flowers in various parts of France, in Italy and in England and even as far north as Norway. It is also now being grown as a perfume plant in Australia. The fragrant oil to which the odor of Lavender flowers is due is widely used in perfumery, and to a lesser extent in medicine. The fine aromatic smell is found in all parts of the shrub, but the essential oil is only produced from the flowers and flower-stalks.
What does Demeter's sunshine smell like? Think of your favorite, most comfortable cotton t-shirt left outside and warmed by the sun. We thought long and hard about what elements we could use to express the idea of sunshine. After a debate that lasted more than a year, we decided cotton, warmed by the sun, was the smell that best represented the idea of sunshine now we had a direction, but executing that direction was easier said than done. It took almost another two years until we felt this fragrance was done. Let us know if you think it was worth the wait.
Bright, fresh, tangy citrus is the dominant sensation of our version of raspberry. It seems impossible to smell this and not smile. We’ve captured the memory of a perfect summer day in a bottle.
The Native Americans used the wood from the Mesquite trees for incense, believing the scent would attract good spirits. Today, we do the same on BBQs throughout the United States, seeking that special scent and flavor of the southwest. But why wait for summer weather? You can experience Mesquite from Demeter Fragrance Library whenever and wherever the urge strikes.
