Design Within Reach Freedom Task Chair with Headrest
Design Within Reach Freedom Task Chair with Headrest 

Niels Diffrients Freedom Chair (1999) was a breakthrough in ergonomic task seating. With a height-adjustable headrest, the headrest version offers customized support for the head, allowing for proper eye-level positioning when working long hours at a computer station. The Freedom Chair is designed to fit almost all body types. The seat depth is adjustable to properly support the seat and thighs, while the adjustable back support helps keep the lumbar region of the body in line. Often, ergonomic chairs are likely to be improperly positioned, resulting in the creation of more problems than they solve. The Freedom Chair is simpler than other chairs, eliminating many manual adjustments and creating instead a system of internal mechanisms that respond to the users needs. A unique counterbalancing tilt mechanism self-adjusts according to the users weight and movement, thus eliminating the need for manual fixes. In addition, the chair and seatback can be easily raised or lowered, and the seat itself moves forward or back. Any adjustments can be easily made while the user is seated for accurate positioning. Because of a natural lift-and-release action, the armrests are effortlessly repositioned in tandem, depending on the task at hand. The seat cushion provides excellent shock absorption and weight distribution for unmatched comfort. Backed by a 15-year manufacturers warranty. Made in U.S.A. For big shots who leave small footprints, Freedom is 62% recycled, 90% recyclable and 100% comfortable. Materials: Die-cast aluminum frame with fused plastic coating; polyurethane foam cushion; vellum fabric upholstery (a blend of nylon, Cordura® and elastic yarn, this four-way stretch textile offers durability and a pleasing texture); 2.5" hard double-wheel casters for carpeted floors only. Charles and Ray Eames believed design is a method of action, and they continually updated their work as new materials became available. The chair that Charles and Ray were designing, explains grandson Eames Demetrios, is the chair thats made tomorrow . The duo originally designed their molded chair in metal and entered it as a prototype in MoMAs 1948 International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design, then refashioned it in light yet strong fiberglass just two years later. In the 1980s, after determining fiberglass production was detrimental to the environment, Herman Miller ceased production to explore more sustainable options, eventually choosing recyclable polypropylene. The company never quite forgot about fiberglass, however, and it recently began researching greener production methods. The Eames Molded Fiberglass Chair (1950) is the end result, constructed using a cleaner process but true to the original with its beloved variegated surface. This reintroduced version comes in a range of reformulated semi-gloss color pigments that faithfully reproduce the vintage ones. Its deep seat pocket and waterfall edge keep you comfortable by reducing pressure on the backs of your thighs. The seat back is left unfinished to maintain a slightly rough natural texture for easier gripping with your hands. This is an authentic Eames product by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A. DFSS stands for dining-height fiberglass side chair with stacking base (stacks up to 14 high). Made of 99% recyclable materials and covered by Herman Millers take-back program for environmentally sound recycling (should you ever wish to part with this chair). Materials: Fiberglass-reinforced plastic seat; chrome-plated steel base; leveling floor glides. The process for making shells and the nature of fiberglass mean that each shell is unique and can possess traits such as tiny cavities in the surface, small points of lighter or darker color, or faint circular shadows where base attaches to shell. Like its abbreviated counterpart, the Chadwick High Task Chair for Knoll® (2005) is designed for comfort to last through a day of reaching, leaning and the micro-adjusting our body does without even realizing it. This is even more true for designers and architects and the large format they work in. Designed by Don Chadwick, a pioneer in workspace seating, the High Task Chair is intended for use in the home studio or anywhere a drafting table or café-height table takes the place of a desk. It features an Active Suspension System to provide synchronized, static support for back and legs. A built-in forward tilt mechanism moves with the sitter, and a generous lumbar curve supports the middle to lower back. The 11-position, adjustable foot ring can be raised or lowered to stabilize your feet and further eliminate pressure off the back. The armrests have a lever-free adjustment that is easily repositioned to suit the task at hand. Backed by a 12-year manufacturer’s warranty. Made in U.S.A. Full 360-degree swivel. Design Within Reach Outdoor LC1 Sling Chair
Design Within Reach Outdoor LC1 Sling Chair 

Le Corbusier regarded traditional furnishings, with their structures hidden beneath wads of padding and upholstery, as relics of the past. Partnering with Charlotte Perriand and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, Le Corbusier stripped away all excess to create the sleek, elemental LC1 Chair (1928). The LC Series was originally designed for indoor use, but after a visit to Villa Savoye, where some of the pieces were being used on the outdoor terrace, Cassina was inspired to create outdoor-safe models. The manufacturer spent three years working closely with the Le Corbusier Foundation to develop a product that was within the Foundations parameters: to be the same or better quality than indoor. Cassina opted for better, using hand-polished AISI 304 stainless steel with silver welding, as opposed to chrome, to construct the frames, a material with extreme resistance to corrosion that is actually more authentic to the product; chrome was not used until the 1970s/1980s. The silver welding will patina over time and develop a halo. The back of the chair is attached to the frame by a rod that allows the angle of tilt to change – as the user shifts from one sitting position to another, the chair back moves, offering continuous support. The waterproof, UV-resistant Sunbrella® fabric is held in place by stainless steel springs that provide a comfortable give. Each piece is signed, numbered and, as a product of Cassina's Masters Collection, manufactured by Cassina under exclusive worldwide license from the Le Corbusier Foundation. Made in Italy. Winner of Wallpaper* Design Award 2012 for Best Domestic Design. A protective, water-repellant cover is included. The LC7 Swivel Chair (1928) evolved from one of a number of experiments, including an attempt to fashion a chair by wrapping inner tubes from tires around a steel frame. As the Le Corbusier group refined such trials, a sensuous solution took form. A round, thickly padded seat rests on top of a curving claw-like base of tubular steel that resolves in a swivel mechanism, giving the seat pad a buoyant look. A curved, amply padded barrel, doubling as backrest and chair arms, links three tubular steel supports that fuse at the seat base. The LC Series was originally designed for indoor use, but after a visit to Villa Savoye, where some of the pieces were being used on the outdoor terrace, Cassina was inspired to create outdoor-safe models. The manufacturer spent three years working closely with the LC Foundation to develop a product that was within the foundations parameters: To be the same or better quality than indoor. Cassina opted for better, using hand-polished AISI 304 stainless-steel with silver welding, as opposed to chrome, to construct the frames – a material with extreme resistance to corrosion that is actually more authentic to the product; chrome was not used until the 1970s/80s. The silver welding will patina over time and develop a halo. Sunbrella fabric covers the UV-resistant (and waterproof) seat and backrest cushions, which are wrapped in Ecofill – a hypoallergenic fiber that dries quickly. Each piece is signed and numbered and, as a product of Cassina's Masters Collection, is manufactured by Cassina under exclusive worldwide license from the Le Corbusier Foundation. Made in Italy. A protective, water-repellant cover is included. Materials: Brush-polished AISI 304 stainless-steel frame with silver welded joints; stainless-steel screws; plastic foot ends; hypoallergenic, biodegradable self-draining polyurethane foam; CFC-free polyurethane foam; polyester yarn netting; Sunbrella® Sling fabric. Design Within Reach Eames Upholstered Molded Fiberglass Wire-Base Side Chair (DFSR) 

DFSR stands for dining-height fiberglass side chair with rod base. Made of 98% recyclable materials and covered by Herman Millers take-back program for environmentally sound recycling (should you ever wish to part with this chair). Materials: Fiberglass-reinforced plastic seat; black powder-coated or chrome-plated steel base; leveling floor glides; Hopsak upholstery (100% recycled polyester). The process for making shells and the nature of fiberglass mean that each shell is unique and can possess traits such as tiny cavities in the surface, small points of lighter or darker color, or faint circular shadows where base attaches to shell. Design Within Reach Pelican Chair

It is shocking to think of Finn Juhl designing this sculptural chair in 1940 – that was more than 75 years ago, and the Pelican Chair is still out there by todays standards. With graceful curves that befriend the body and wrap the sitter in its embrace, the Pelican is true to Juhls idea that a chair is not just a product of decorative art in a space, it is a form and a space in itself. And while the influence of contemporary sculpture is clear, Juhl was quick to clarify that furniture is furniture, not sculpture. The upholstery is hand-sewn onto the frame; some colors (see below) are finished with tufted buttons. This is the authentic Pelican Chair by Onecollection. Made in Denmark. Colors with tufted buttons: grey with red cushion and red buttons; teal with light blue cushion and light blue buttons; cream with leather sand cushion and leather sand buttons. Materials: Steel frame molded in hard cellular plastic and MDI; walnut legs; canvas-linen bottom cover; 100% recyclable Pantera foam and cotton fiber padding; hand-sewn double-stitched upholstery. Teal/Blue: Kvadrat Divina 3 (100% wool) with tufted buttons. Charcoal Grey, Plum and Tan/Brown: Kvadrat Divina Melange (100% wool). Cream: Kvadrat Hallingdal (70% wool, 30% viscose).
