The design of Eero Saarinen's Executive Side Chair (1946) began more than a decade earlier, when he and Charles Eames submitted several designs to the Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition at MoMA. The pair, who'd been friends and collaborators since meeting at Cranbrook Academy of Art, won first prize. These fluid, sculptural shapes influenced the future work of both men – for Saarinen, most notably in his Womb, Tulip and Executive Chairs. The Executive was originally made of fiberglass but was later updated in polyurethane. The feel of this classic seat, however, remains unchanged. The molded shell flexes slightly with the sitter, and the contoured plywood seat is supported by metal or wood legs. Unlike Saarinen's furniture, which was consistently sculptural in form, these fluid lines didn't appear in his architecture until the 1950s. When looking at the dome-shaped glass wall of the Kresge Auditorium at MIT, it's not a big leap to see the same shape in the back of Saarinen's Executive Chair. This chair is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified for its use of low-emitting products. Manufactured by Knoll according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Backed by a five-year manufacturers warranty. Made in U.S.A. The Eames® Aluminum Group Collection (1958) began as a special project for Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard, who needed seating for a home they were designing for industrialist J. Irwin Miller in Columbus, Indiana. The request was for leisure chairs light enough to move from indoors to out and strong enough to withstand the elements. At the time, the Eameses were exploring ways to use aluminum, which had been strengthened, refined and made more affordable since WWII. They constructed a lightweight die-cast frame for the project, then wrapped it in a sling – a sitting pocket that subtly conforms to the bodys shape. The result was a completely new type of seat and a departure from the idea of a chair as solid shell. While the original concept was for outdoor seating, the Eameses quickly recognized its possibilities for indoor use. This collection has been in continuous production by Herman Miller since 1958. Constructed of 61% recycled materials, its also 88% recyclable at the end of its useful life. Backed by a 12-year manufacturers warranty. This is an authentic Eames chair by Herman Miller. Hans Wegners Ladderback Chair (1966), with its fine joinery and exquisite form, demonstrates the Danish modern innovators roots as a cabinetmaker. Shaker-inspired, it features visible joints between the foreleg and the armrest, which help make the chair extremely strong. The hand-woven paper cord seat provides a compelling material contrast to the solid oak frame on this intuitively ergonomic chair that can be used for reading or as a statement piece. A fine example of Wegners trademark organic functionalism, the Ladderback combines the warmth of natural wood with the clean, minimal lines of midcentury modernism. One of Wegners more than 500 chair creations, it has a timeless shape that hasnt aged a bit since its conception in 1966. Made in Denmark. Materials: Solid Danish oak wood; woven paper cord. Niels Diffrients Freedom Chair (1999) was a breakthrough in ergonomic task seating. With a height-adjustable headrest, the headrest version offers customized support for the head, allowing for proper eye-level positioning when working long hours at a computer station. The Freedom Chair is designed to fit almost all body types. The seat depth is adjustable to properly support the seat and thighs, while the adjustable back support helps keep the lumbar region of the body in line. Often, ergonomic chairs are likely to be improperly positioned, resulting in the creation of more problems than they solve. The Freedom Chair is simpler than other chairs, eliminating many manual adjustments and creating instead a system of internal mechanisms that respond to the users needs. A unique counterbalancing tilt mechanism self-adjusts according to the users weight and movement, thus eliminating the need for manual fixes. In addition, the chair and seatback can be easily raised or lowered, and the seat itself moves forward or back. Any adjustments can be easily made while the user is seated for accurate positioning. Because of a natural lift-and-release action, the armrests are effortlessly repositioned in tandem, depending on the task at hand. The seat cushion provides excellent shock absorption and weight distribution for unmatched comfort. Backed by a 15-year manufacturers warranty. Made in U.S.A. For big shots who leave small footprints, Freedom is 62% recycled, 90% recyclable and 100% comfortable. Materials: Die-cast aluminum frame with fused plastic coating; polyurethane foam cushion; fabric or leather upholstery; 2.5" hard double-wheel casters for carpeted floors only. (Casters for hardwood floors are available through customer service and Studios.) Spinneybeck Vicenza Leather: A lightly corrected aniline-dyed leather with a breathable protective finish that ensures great durability. Vellum: A blend of nylon, Cordura® and elastic yarn. This four-way stretch textile offers durability and a pleasing texture. Measurements:H 48.25"–53" W 26.75" D 26" Seat H 18"–22.75" Arm H 20.75"–32.75"

Award-winning industrial designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick earned themselves a place in what amounts to the design hall of fame when their Aeron Chair (1994) was added to the permanent collection of MoMA. Aeron is the paradigm of ergonomic seating, conceived to conform not only to different body shapes but also to movement, with multiple adjustment points for a custom fit. The breakthrough Kinemat tilt mechanism lets it move smoothly with the user from forward tilt (when you reach for the phone) to backward recline (while you contemplate what to say). And the Pellicle weave upholstery, another innovation in concept and comfort, evenly distributes weight over the seat and back, and permits air circulation. Durable and sleek, this chair will still look like new long after you retire. Design doesnt get more civilized. This is the authentic Aeron Chair produced by Herman Miller. Constructed of 66% recycled materials. Backed by a 12-year manufacturer's warranty. Made in U.S.A. The manual for the Setu Chair (2009) is pretty straightforward: Sit down. This multipurpose chair defines flexibility, moving as the user moves, with a clean aesthetic that suits nearly any home or office space. Its true innovation comes from the patented kinematic spine, which connects the back and seat into one continuous support. Inspired by nature with its spiraling nautilus shell shape and contours, Setus unique spine conforms to the shape of your own, without the need for any manual adjustments or complicated lumbar supports. Its seat and back are made with LyrisTM elastomer, an innovative material that distributes your weight evenly by stretching in every direction. Its no accident that this chair is designed for a healthy back – Setu is Sanskrit for bridge and is borrowed from the yoga pose Setu Bandhasana, a strengthening backbend. Setu was selected by Interior Design as a distinctive design winner in its Annual Design Review of 2010. Backed by a 12-year manufacturer's warranty. This is the authentic Setu Chair by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A. Constructed of 44% recycled materials and 93% recyclable.
