James Rosenquist for Fire Pole

A one-time billboard painter, James Rosenquist applied similar techniques to the large-scale studio works he began creating in 1960. Combing mass media imagery and celebrity figures (like JFK and Marilyn Monroe), Rosenquist grossly enlarged and fragmented his images, then juxtaposed and layered them to create a complex visual narrative. This big name in American Pop Art also produced created drawings, collages, and prints.
