Design Within Reach Min Bed
DWR Exclusive Early in his career, Italian designer Luciano Bertoncini had a chance meeting with the legendary Joe Colombo, who chose one of Bertoncini's products to feature in his catalog. The exposure he received from that placement led to an invitation to contribute to the famous 1972 exhibition Italy: The New Domestic Landscape at MoMA in New York. Today, Bertoncini is a furniture designer working from his studio in Treviso, serving the needs of clients around the world. It takes a skilled designer to make a metal bed look elegant rather than institutional, and his Min Bed (2003) has been a best-selling product in our assortment since its debut. Combining high-quality materials and expert construction with a basic slat platform, the Min provides constant ventilation for your mattress (which is crucial for memory foam). Bed ships flat; simple assembly required. Made in Italy. This bed is compatible with our Sonno Mattress. Platform sits a few inches below frame. Design Within Reach NelsonTM Platform Bench - Metal Leg
George Nelson's Platform Bench (1946) is one of the great icons of midcentury modernism. For Herman Miller's influential design director, utility was as important as beauty, and his spare rectangular bench is the result of this belief. It serves equally well as table, platform base or seating, depending on need and situation. No wonder it's been called timeless; something this functional never dates. The chrome legs have a slender profile; also available with wood legs. Ships with legs unattached; simple assembly required. This is the authentic Nelson Bench produced by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A. Constructed with solid maple or walnut, this piece showcases the natural variations in wood; slight color differences from slat to slat should be expected Materials: Solid maple or walnut slats with clear-coat finish; chromed metal legs; metal leveling glides. Design Within Reach Eos Rectangular Table
DWR Exclusive When we asked Matthew Hilton to identify the common elements found in his work, he replied, "Functional, stackable, it has to store easily and be a good price." Fast-forward to today, and he's still staying true to those ideals. Seeing a need for durable outdoor furniture at accessible prices, Hilton created the Eos Collection (2011), which is sleek enough to work in an indoor dining space, as well. Eos is lightweight – literally and visually – smartly proportioned and very comfortable. Certain to inspire leisurely outdoor living during the long days of summer, this collection was named for Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn and bringer of light. It's constructed of powder-coated aluminum that won't rust over time. Rectangular and Square tables fit seamlessly together to create a longer table when needed. Made in China. Materials: Powder-coated aluminum; plastic floor glides. Measurements:H 28.75" W 63" D 31.5"
Design Within Reach AntTM Chair with 4 Legs in Colored Ash
Originally designed for the canteen at Novo Nordisk, an international Danish healthcare company, the Ant Chair (1952) faced an unclear future when the manufacturer expressed concern about its potential. But Arne Jacobsen believed in his product and offered to buy all the chairs if they didn't sell. Of course, he never had to make good on that offer, as the Ant Chair quickly became an international success. Jacobsen shaped the core of Danish design identity when he accommodated three different bends in one piece of plywood, simply by narrowing the chair back. This chair is ideally suited to the human body. Its seatback has a comfortable give, and its waterfall seat edge doesn't press into legs. Stackable up to six high. This is the authentic Ant Chair by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Denmark. Colored Ash is a durable stain that keeps the wood grain visible, making each chair unique. Grey Oak is a special edition with painted oak veneer shell and steel frame with bronze finish. Materials: Pressure-molded sliced veneer shell with outer layer in lazur-painted ash or oak veneer; tubular steel frame with polished chrome or matte bronze finish. Measurements:H 31.75" W 20" D 19" Seat H 18.25"
Design Within Reach Eames Molded Plastic Dowel-Leg Side Chair (DSW)
Charles and Ray Eames believed that "design is a method of action," and they continually updated their work as new materials became available. Their Molded Plastic chairs were originally designed in metal and entered as a prototype in MoMA's 1948 International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design. They then changed the material to fiberglass in 1950, and today the chairs are made of recyclable polypropylene. Charles was dissatisfied with the fiberglass, and it wasn't until after his death that the matte finish he desired was achieved, thanks to advances in materials. "The chair that Charles and Ray were designing," explains grandson Eames Demetrios, "is the chair that's made tomorrow ." The deep seat pocket and waterfall seat edge keep you comfortable by reducing pressure on the backs of thighs. This is an authentic chair by Herman Miller, Inc. Eames is a licensed trademark of Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A. DSW stands for dining height, side chair with wood base. Materials: Injection-molded batch-dyed recyclable polypropylene; walnut, maple, ebony-stained ash or white ash dowels; black or white powder-coated or chrome-plated steel base. Measurements:H 31.75" W 18" D 21" Seat H 17.25"
Design Within Reach Noguchi Table
Following his apprenticeship with the legendary Constantin Brancusi, sculptor Isamu Noguchi began to experiment in environmental design, theatrical sets – he was the only designer choreographer Martha Graham would work with – and, eventually, product design. He created his first furniture prototypes for Herman Miller in 1942 and went on to work with companies such as Steuben and Zenith. The Noguchi Table (1948) conceals nothing, revealing everything about the nature of simplicity. Two smoothly shaped pieces of solid wood interlock to form a tripod that supports a thick glass tabletop. The base is available in black, walnut, natural cherry and white ash, the latter of which is finished with a process that arrests the wood in its freshly cut state, resulting in a creamy white color that will not turn yellow over time. This is the authentic Noguchi Table by Herman Miller. The Noguchi Table must ship with our White Glove delivery service. Made in U.S.A. The configuration of this table is a registered trademark. To distinguish the real Noguchi table from the cheap knockoffs, Herman Miller has etched Noguchi's signature on the longest edge of the glass top and on a medallion on the underside of the base. Materials: Solid wood base in Noguchi black, walnut, natural cherry or white ash; 0.75" thick glass. Measurements:H 15.75" W 50" D 36"

Design Within Reach Matera Bed
DWR Exclusive The Matera Collection (2007), focused on delivering ample storage, is the work of Sean Yoo, who at the time of its conception lived in Matera, Italy (thus its name). Born in Seoul, Yoo grew up in Los Angeles and was working as a city planner when a visit to the Noguchi Museum in New York inspired him to pursue design. "I was particularly attracted to the way Noguchi applied sculptural qualities to common household objects," says Yoo. "It seemed to give meaning and purpose to otherwise meaningless objects." The Matera Collection features clean lines nicely finished with beveled edges, running match wood grain and exposed-slot mortise-and-tenon corner joints. All pieces have slotted bases that lend an airy feel. The Matera Bed has side panels that rest off the floor. Made in Malaysia. This bed requires no box spring and is compatible with our Sonno Mattress. Materials: Solid walnut or oak case frame and bed rails; walnut or oak veneer over MDF headboard and footboard with thick solid walnut or oak edging; 0.5" solid ash bed slats.
